About

The Power of Food Festival showcases community food growing all over the Edinburgh area and celebrates the amazing people who breathe life into neighbourhoods through their work in and around the gardens. Its purpose is to encourage greater societal well-being, environmental sustainability and social inclusion through the promotion of community food growing.

The Festival takes place around the summer solstice in mid-June. Over a weekend, numerous community gardens that grow food in Edinburgh open their gates and offer fun and entertainment to the public.

“Community food growing is transforming our city. I’m thrilled that Edinburgh is playing host to The Power of Food Festival, the first of its kind in Scotland.”            Cllr Lesley Hinds, Chair of Edible Edinburgh

Community gardens are part of our urban landscape and come in many different shapes and sizes. The one thing they all have in common is that they bring people together around a meaningful concept of growing food together, sometimes on the most unlikely piece of land.

“The Power of Food Festival seeks to inspire the public to think differently about how we can use local green spaces, to reconsider our relationship with food, and to think of community food growing as a powerful force for social change – connecting people, building trust, doing something together that’s greater than the sum of the parts.”  Marie-Amélie Viatte, founder of the Festival

The Power of Food Festival is organised by the unincorporated association of the same name. The constitution of the association can be found following the link: http://bit.ly/1M19FNG.
